Grumman G-36 BuNo 3875, D-224, Royal Greek Air Force May 1941

Greece ordered 30 G-36 aircraft equivalent to the USN F4F-3A, and these aircraft arrived in the Mediterranean just some days too late to be taken on strength with the Greek Air Force; instead, they were delivered to the Royal Navy on 30th April 1941 and served as Martlet MkIII from land bases in Egypt. As they were not expected to be used from carriers - the Greeks had no carriers - they had fixed wings and no naval equipment. This hypothetical skin uses the delivery scheme of non-specular light grey and is based on typical Greek fighter markings of the period. As these aircraft were drawn from US Navy stocks, the Bureau of Aeronautics number was painted on the rear fuselage
