Usio's Battleship Dunkerque. Launched 1935 and commissioned 1937, Dunkerque had a busy early war, participating with HMS Hood attempting to engage Scharnhorst and Gneisnau. Dunkerque was in Mers-el Kebir, when the French surrender came. Badly damaged by shells from HMS Hood, when the French fleet refused to disobey the Armistice, and further air attacks, Dunkerque eventually reached Toulon for repair. In 1942 when the Germans took control, she was scuttled in dry dock by her crew. Her remains were finally removed in 1959.
