The Macchi C.202 Folgore (Lightning) was the best fighter built by the Italians in significant numbers. It combined an excellent airframe with an export version of the Daimler Benz DB 601A license built by Alfa Romeo. The license built engine actually performed better than the original.
At its introduction into combat in 1941, it was superior to its opposition in the Mediterranean Theatre.
This project was derived from the Macchi C.205 Veltro model that was built in the course of an Aircraft Design Tutorial.
Paint scheme is for a fictitious unit but is typical of the style used by the Regia Aeronautica in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations.
Let me know what you think of this Aeroplane!
