Oblt Bauer operated with 9. Staffel over the Demyansk sector in February 1942, and brought home his 39th and 40th victories. These were reportedly MiG-3s, but were most likely LaGG-3s. He never returned to front-line duty, and was credited with a total of 106 victories, all but 4 on the Eastern Front.
