Some files, like .50cal and .30cal was modified to simulate an increased rate of fire, with the volume amplified in stereo. These new files sound like several machine guns firing, and not just one in the cockpit.
And the other sounds were remastered, there is more volume+ echo sound, plus less distortion.
Backup your files beforehand, and then drop these new files in your main Sound folder.
