This skin pack includes two aircraft from 111 Sqn, one from 41 Sqn and one from 65 Sqn. One of the lesser known episodes in the operational history of the Spitfire is its use as a nightfighter. During the winter 1941/1942, it was feared that the night Blitz of the year before might be repeated in 1942.For interception duties, it was decided that an aircraft of higher performance than the Hurricane was required and therefore a decision was made to convert some of the Spitfire MkV squadrons to nightfighting duties. 111, 65 and 41 Squadrons were assigned to
the new role. The aircraft were repainted in night camouflage and the units commenced training in night flying and interception during winter 1941/1942. Unfortunately, the ratio of successto loss (mainly through accidents) was deemed unacceptable and the squadrons returned to daytime ops.
Many thanks to Merlin66 and YAS for the superb original aircraft and for permission for the repaints.
Cheers.
