HMAS Adelaide is the largest ships ever built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), an Amphibious Assault Ships also known as Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD). The design is based on the Spanish Navy LHD Juan Carlos I, and was built by Navantia and BAE Systems Australia. She is capable to carry up to 24 helicopters (Eurocopter Tiger and NH90, and C 47 Chinook), 1.200 troops and light and heavy vehicles. She has a sky jump that could make her useful as aircraft carrier using STOVL planes, AV8B+ Harrier (as her Spanish sister ship carries) or F35B.
