This repaint of the RFND F-8E Crusader represents an F-8H Crusader from US Navy Reserve Carrier Fighter Squadron 86 (VSF-86) based at NAS New Orleans, circa 1973. VSF-86 was established in 1970 as the second of two Navy Reserve Carrier Antisubmarine Fighter Squadrons, VSF-76 was the other squadron, based at NAS New Orleans. Both squadrons transitioned from A-4Cs to the F-8H in 1971. In August 1973 both VSF-76 and 86 combined with VF-753 and were re-designated as VC-13 and relocated to NAS Miramar in September that same year to become the Pacific Fleet Dissimilar Aircraft Training Squadron.
