This is a repaint of the FDGv2 Donationware F4F-3 Wildcat
F4F-3 black 8, flown by Lt Col Harold William Bauer, VMF-212, USMC, Guadalcanal September-November 1942 Bauer amassed a total of ten kills (plus a probable kill of a Zero) during the bitter fighting for Guadalcanal - one of them while attached to VMF-224, and four (plus the probable) while flying with VMF-223. The official USMC listing gives Bauer ten kills, including the probable which he himself refused to claim! He was appointed commander of all fighters on Guadalcanal on 23 October 1942, issuing the advice 'When you see Zeros, dogfight 'em!' The optimistic and aggressive Bauer, often known as 'the Coach' or 'Indian Joe', went missing in action on 14 November 1942, over Guadalcanal, and received his Medal of Honour posthumously. His F4F is unusual in having a white cowling lip. Thanks to the crew at FDGv2 for providing us this great plane!! Please take the time to read the original read me, that I have included.
