This is a repaint of the FDGv2 Donationware F4F-3 Wildcat
F4F-3 BuNo 2531/black F-2, flown by Ensign Elbert Scott McCuskey, VF-42, USS Yorktown, 8 May 1942 This Wildcat was used by Scott McCuskey (who had earlier shared in the destruction of a four-engined patrol aircraft) to gain his first full victory - a Zero from the carrier Shokaku during the Battle of the Coral Sea. Low on fuel, McCuskey landed aboard the damaged Lexington, where his aircraft remained as the ship burned, exploded and sank. McCuskey himself enjoyed a longer career, moving to 'Fighting Three' and reaching a total of 6.5 Wildcat victories, plus a further seven kills while flying Hellcats with VF-8. His F4F score included three 'Vals' destroyed when 12 Wildcats tackled 18 dive-bombers hell bent on sinking Yorktown. Despite splashing 11 Aichis, CV-5 was hit three times, causing mortal damage. The carrier was later sunk by a Japanese submarine. Thanks to the crew at FDGv2 for providing us this great plane!! Please take the time to read the original read me, that I have included.
