Image above shows aircraft type only. I believe this to be the same photo referred to below as I was able to make out NZ47XX just to the left of the vertical Stab.
In early 1945, the Royal New Zealand Air Force received the first 4 of a batch of PV-2 Harpoons to replace the PV-1 Ventura's that were currently in service in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
These arrived in March 1945, but at the time the RNZAF's F4U corsairs were starting to receive more Ground Attack missions and the decision was taken that the PV-2s were no longer required and the 4 received were sent back to the USN, and the remaining order Cancelled.
The 4 PV-2s received were Serialed NZ4701- NZ4704.
This is NZ4703 in what i believe to be the most accurate scheme as there is only 1 known image of an RNZAF PV-2.
