sc-AH-Hurricane Clowes
Skin Pack for the AH Hurricane MKI by Sopwith Chameleon Set of Skins for the AH Hurricane featuring three Hurricanes flown by "Darky" Clowes. I have an interest in this Pilot as he was born in a Village not far away from where I live now in the UK. P/O Arthur Victor Clowes was a Sergeant with No 1 Squadron flying Hurricane's in France and during the Battle of Britain. In France he shot down 2 He 111's, 2 Bf 109E's 2 Bf 110's and a Ju 87, and survived a mid-air collission with a French Curtiss 75a (skillfully landing his Hurricane virtually without a tail), and in the Battle of Britain he scored 2 He 111's & 1 Do 17, plus many more shared and "probables". He was commissioned in September 1940 and went on to become Wing Commander and was awarded a D.F.M. (in June 1940) and the D.S.O. (in May 1941). He flew early "Rhubarb" offensive patrols over occupied France in 1941 before being rested from Ops in April 1941, being posted to various OTU's as an Instructor. He died in December 1950, of Liver Cancer, aged only 37. The Skins represent Hurricane MkI from his time with No1 Sqn in France (the one in which he survived the air to air collision) Hurricane MkIa from the Battle of Britain (the "Wasp" on the nose was painted by Arthur who was a talented Artist, and had a new stripe painted to denote each Victory), and, Hurricane MKIIa as used over France in 1941 (new DP enclosed to add the extra Guns)
