sc-jrl Spitfire MK VA FS 2004 Model by J R Lucariny (available here http://lucariny.sites.uol.com.br/SPTNKK.htm), CFS2 Conversion, Textures & DP by Sowith Chameleon. Represents Supermarine Spitfire MK Va as flown by Douglas Bader when leading the Tangmere Wing in 1941. Bader favored the Va over the Vb as he preferred the all Machine-Gun armament - he believed that the .303 Colt Browning was superior to the Hispano 20mm Cannon as it had more Ammunition, was less prone to stoppages and jams, and the lighter weight made the a/c more manouverable. He also believed it made the Pilot get in close. He was wrong on all counts (and later admitted such) - he was also unpopular with armorers as his loadout included more than the recommended number of incendiary and tracer rounds, which fouled the barrels of the guns. This is not the aircraft that Bader was flying when he collided with an Me 109F over France and was captured and made a POW. That was a Castle Bromwich built Spitfire Va S/N W3185 - this is his earlier Va (a converted MKII) Presentation Aircraft (the "Manxman" S/N P7966.
