Avro Lancaster BI Special 9 SQN
Textures for Buddha 13's conversion of Dave Garwood's Lancaster Grand Slam By Sopwith Chameleon Avro Lancaster BI Special WS-M, 9SQN, RAF Bardney. This Aircraft took part in Operation "Paravane", the attack on the "Tirpitz" in Stavanger Fjiord 12 Sept, 1944.with Aircraft of 617 "Dambuster" Squadron. After a 12 hour flight, the pilot Flt Lt G. C. Camsell R.C.A.F. was not able to find the intended landing place, the Russian Airfield at Yadgodnick due to bad weather. Camsell finally located a very small wooden planked landing strip some miles away, and effected a very skillful forced landing causing only minor damage to the a/c. The crew was interned by the Soviets for a short while, but were soon re-patriated along with several crates of Vodka. NOTE: This scheme is not strictly accurate as WS-M retained the bomb doors which did not quite close over the "Tallboy" bomb - later BIII's had bulged bomb bays which completely enclosed the "Tallboy".
