This is a repaint of the Sim Skunkworks F-104S to represent the aircraft in its final paint scheme, lo-viz grey.The aircraft depicted is MM6739 as it was in 2000 with 23 Gruppo, 5 Stormo flying out of Istrana AB, Northern Italy. The aircraft ended its flying career with 4 Stormo at Grosseto, and is currently displayed at Poggio Renatico AMI command centre.
The current version of the Sim Skunkworks F-104S model displays an earlier F-104S version with the M-61 Vulcan cannon retained together with the ALQ-70 antenna behind the cockpit canopy. This is inaccurate for this paint scheme but the later F-104S-ASA/M will be released in 2012, so, for now, there is some 'poetic licence' with this repaint!
