Pacific Ghosts - Spitfire VIII RAF 54 Squadron

A58-390 was delivered to the RAAF in February 1944 having previously been allocated the RAF serial JG465. On July 20, 1944 while being flown by F/L F Meakin of 54 (RAF) Squadron, this aircraft was one of three sent to intercept a Ki-46 Dinah near Truscott, WA. Meakin, along with F/L D Gossland were credited with shooting down the aircraft. This has been accepted as the last Japanese aircraft shot down over Australia during WW2. Eight days later, A58-390 crashed during a ground attack exercise, killing its pilot Frederick Meakin. Repaint of Paul Rebuffat's GMAX Spitfire Mk. VIII by Daniel Leahy using a template provided by Peter Haley.
