Spitfire P9433 DW-E, Plt Off Constantine Pegge, No. 610 (County of Chester) Sqn RAF, Biggin Hill, early August 1940.
It is probable that owing to the unavailability of the new "Sky" colour introduced on fighters on 6th June 1940, the underside of this aircraft was painted rather with BS381 (1930) No1 Sky Blue. This shade was commonly referred to as "Duck Egg Blue". Underwing roundels were reintroduced for Home-based day fighters from 11th August 1940.
