This folder contains a repaint for the Spitfire Mk. IX by FlyingIron, in the colors of Spitfire IX MH526 LO-D of No.602 Squadron, one of the aircraft flown by Pierre Clostermann. Clostermann was a diplomats son, born in Brazil, and gained his private pilots licence in 1937. At the outbreak of the war, his application for service was refused, so he travelled to California and studied at CalTech. He joined the Free French Air Force in the UK in 1942 and after training was posted to No.341 (FRench) Squadron. Here, he scored his first victories in 1943. In October 1943 he was commissioned an officer and posted to No.602 Squadron, and while wth them, became one of the first French pilots to land in France after the landings in Normandy, on 18 June 1944. He later served No.274 Squadron flying the Hawker Tempest, and with No.56 and No.3 squadrons. During a victory flypast on 12 May 1945, another Tempest collided with his, eventually leading to 4 aircraft crashing and three pilots being killed, Clostermann the only survivor. He flew 432 missions during the war, was officially credited with 33 victories and ended the war as Wing Commander.
