The Renault FT 17 was the most revolutionary tank used during World War One, 3700 were built from mid 1917 to the armistice, at Renault factory, but too Berliet, Somua and Delaunay-Belleville. It was fitted with a fully revolving turret equipped with a 37 mm gun or an Hotchkiss machine gun. The crew was composed of two persons, the driver and the gunner.

It was exported after the end of World War One to many countries and was used in the Russian civil war and Polish-Soviet War, in Sino-Japanese war, and in the Spanish Civil War, in both sides. It saw too action in World War Two, but was this time totally obsolete with opponents such Panzers III and IV.
Its first engagement was during the third battle of the Aisne on the 31 mai 1918, it was later used in large formations up to the armistice.
