This repaint represents the Grumman TBM-1C Avenger of VT-18 deployed aboard the USS Intrepid (CV-11) in 1944. On October 24, 1944, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Ensign Willard M. Fletcher (USNR) flew this aircraft and participated in the attack on the Japanese "Center Force" in the Sibuyan Sea. Fletcher and other Avengers of VT-18 attacked the Japanese battleship Musashi in the first wave of attacks against this force.
