This campaign is a 20-mission set (All on the Finnish side) that depicts the Winter War of 1939-1940 that Finland fought against the relentless Soviet onslaught. The campaign parallels the sister 'Finland Wars 2.0' campaign, found at the Sim-outhouse. It is flown from the perspective of the Finns.
The Soviets wanted security for their second largest city, Leningrad. To that end, the Soviets tried to aggressively negotiate a deal with the Finns to move their border back 25 miles. When that didn't work, the Russians shelled one of their own border towns, then blamed Finland for it and demanded reparations.
This campaign takes up where those negotiations broke down. The Soviets were confident that their numerical superiority would quickly decide the issue. However, because of the heavy and cutting purges by Stalin in the 1930's, morale was poor, and the leadership wasn't much better. They also suffered from poor tactics which didn't allow them to use their advantage. It has occasionally been said that Hitler was influenced my the basic ineptitude of the Soviets during the Winter War, perhaps influencing his decision to launch 'Operation Barbarossa'.
This campaign took some compromising from my usual high standards in that the Finns didn't gain sympathy from the Germans until after the Soviets invaded. Because there are no Finnish guns and vehicles, I used a mix of standard American vehicles and infrastructure, to go along with some German 88mm 'Flak' guns for extra defense against the Russian invaders.
This campaign required somewhat of an overhaul, so please appreciate the effort it took to rework it. Because of the limited scope of aircraft, this was somewhat easier to rebuild than the Finland Wars 2.0 campaign pack was. It is now complete, so enjoy!!
I am now taking a break, and am then going to start working on the Mediterranean theatre. I would like to rework some of those campaigns as well, but I'm on a little bit of burnout from my Eastern Front 'Blitzkrieg' of sorts.
