100 Ford Tri-Motor Liveries

Hi good people,

Well, I would never have believed it would get so far out of hand, but there is now 100 FREE Ford Tri-Motor repaints now available on my site.

This has got to be some sort of record for the number of liveries created by one person for one of the dreaded Microsoft Default aircraft.

There is still 12 more that Edward wants to be done and I am working on them over the next few days but I thought it was worth mentioning that we had hit the century milestone for repaints for this girl.

Just a sample below:

Anyway - feel free to pop on over to my site http://www.gjsmith.net - hit the Catalogue Button and scroll down to the Ford Tri-Motor and then go to the Ford page and download to your hearts content.

Regards and happy simming.

Garry

I know I'm expressing the sentiments of many other people here but can I offer sincere thanks both to you and Ed Moore for your efforts in re-generating the Trimotor to the level it deserves, ie, an important place in civil aviation history, particularly in the USA, and it's prominence as a result of the Kelly Act.

Kind regards
David

What I'm curious about is what in the world is Ed blackmailing you with to get this kind of production.:icon_lol:

Thanks for your kind words David.

No - Edward is not blackmailing me - very much the obverse of that.

Edward is extremely enthusiastic about the Flight Sim environment and dedicated to giving something back to the community - he originally commissioned me to do some repaints specifically for Bush Flying Unlimited.

Then he got hold of a book in relation to the Ford Tri-Motor and focused on several repaints from that book.

Then he purchased and sent to me the same book and we started to work on page references and ideas between us on colors and potential for use with the limited Default aircraft. The Fords have been blossoming from there.

I must highlight that Edward has been commissioning me to do the majority of the liveries that are available and I have thrown in a few freebies. Edward has already expended and is still investing a considerable amount of his money to commission and release these as FREE to the community which I think is commendable and very important that we appreciate his dedication and commitment to the community.

Edward is also doing about 90% of the research for logos and history for each of these and has given as much time and effort to the project as I have in achieving the repaints to meet his needs and expectation.

I hope that clears up the reasoning behind the shear volume - Ed's enthusiasm is the driving force and I am just the painter bringing his ideas and concepts to the Flight Sim graphic media.

Regards and happy simming

Where do I begin ...

Where does one begin, when attempting to pay tribute to the work by someone like Gary Smith?
How can words possibly summarise the meticulous attention to detail combined with the technical mastery which can only be described as true artistic genious?

My whole hearted gratitude seems inadequate in return for the many superb aircraft textures by Gary, accumulated and treasured over the years. But thank you Gary, I must!

And now, we receive a plethora of immaculate 'paints' that cast an entire new light on what had become in my hangar, at least (I'm ashamed to admit) a dust collector!

So let us roll back those hangar doors in pride, let in those rays of sun and show off these new gems on the apron.
Look up in awe, Gentlemen:

There's a Ford Trimotor in the circuit

Thank you Gary, and remembering my boyhood years you have made us;

'Proud to be Australian!'

Thank you very much for your kind words Nigel - I am humbled by your praise but also proud to be an Aussie and considerably proud of the graphics services that I have provided the simming community since the release of Microsoft Flight Sim 98.

Again thank you for making the time and effort to post your comments and I appreciate them - rarely do people do that now days :salute:.

Hope you and other enjoy the Ford repaints and the many others that are available from my site.

Regards and happy simming.

very well done Garry, it is thanks to you and another known repainter, Andy Nott that i took up repainting, you both served as an inspiration to me, so a double thanks is needed, one for these wonderful tri-motors and another for continuing to be an inspiration :ernae:

Let me add my thanks to Gary for these incredible works of art and to Ed for the commissioning of the art in the first place. To be honest I had been wondering about the arrangement between you two gentlemen and had not found a way to phrase the question politely and inoffensively. Even without these old Fords if I deleted every repaint done by Gary out of my hangar my FS world would be a very dull place. I really can't thank you enough.:ernae:Stefan

I'd like to add my two bits as well. Even tho the Ford Tri Motor isn't a plane of choice for me, Garry's brushwork is some of the nicest around and I have installed quite a few of them. I probably won't install all 100, as I'd never get the chance to fly them all.

I like Garry's work, especially his fictional paints for Wozza's P-51 and the S8 F-86 Sabre. Very smooth and accurate are the best words that I can use to describe. :medals: For those of you who have Wozza's excellent little Gee Bee Racer, Garry has some very unique and exceptionally nice skins for that plane.

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words - always nice to hear that my work is giving some enrichment to your flight sim environment.

I have been pumping this sort of work out now for many years across an incomprehensible number of different aircraft both in the FREE and the Commercial environments with the likes of Abacus and JustFlight having many hundreds of my artworks featured in many of their products.

However, this Ford project inspired by Ed has been, and is still, some of the best fun I have had with an aircraft - lots of scope to be creative and at the same time an opportunity to fill in a lot of historical details for the old girl.

Plus, most importantly, the challenge to try and beat the serious limitation of the mirrored surfaces of the Default Ford Tri-Motor has been a graphics adventure for each of them.

Again thank you for your kind words - appreciate it greatly and gives a warm glow to know that people are enjoying the end results of some seriously hard work in creating these "tinkers" for the Ford.

Regards and happy simming to your all.

I'll also add my thanks to Garry for producing such a huge range of Tri-Motor repaints. :applause:

I was overjoyed when the first couple came out for this overlooked default aircraft. :jump:

But then they kept coming ..... and coming ..... and coming ....... :jump: :jump:

There's got to be a texture for any occasion and any location.

Thanks again Garry :ernae:

Pete.

Not me,

I'm doing a similar thing to yourself, painting a default. You make me sick, 100+ paints, I've only manager about 15ish, some of those are variations. God dang it, I should hate you.

But I don't, I'm just Jealous of your work rate and quality, wowserz!! Absolutely stonking work, from one who knows how difficult the defaults are to paint. Last time I volunteer myself for that, lol. But honestly, I've enjoyed it immensely, hope you have to.

100+!!, I've got a long ways to go!! Think I'll let you keep that record, lol.

regards,
Jamie

Thanks for your comments Jamie :salute:

If Ed or I had known there was going to be well over 100 repaints for this girls we would probably have not done them. Particularly because of the serious limitations to painting the Default Ford Tri-Motor. But it just crept up on us - as I created each one I got more involved in the challenge of "beating the limitations" so it just kept growing and growing.

Some have been fairly straightforward but the majority have pushed the boundaries of creativity to make them a reasonable looking repaint.

This is No 107 that I have just finished (Pan American Airways - will be available soon - just sent to Ed for his review and concurrence before posting to my site for download.

Thank You Garry.....

I like to go back to some of my old favorites from time to time, and when someone like Garry does a great job giving a grand dame a new dress it really makes it more fun...... Can’t say what my favorites are because they are all good. (But....being ex US NAVY I’m a bit partial to that one).

So, again, thanks Garry
