Do you remember this one? Seems like yesterday. It was 1993 :isadizzy:

Makes you wonder what things will be like in 2027.

(And makes you realise how quickly 2027 will arrive!)

I had/still have both of Dynamix' titles .... Aces over Europe and Aces over The Pacific ...

You want to know what 2027 will be like - take a close look at the Holodeck, as featured on the Enterprise of Star Trek fame. . .

That game was too cool. I played it hundreds of times. I liked the immersiveness of the games, certainly 17 years back!

Thanks for sharing,

R.

excellent i still remember the sounds:icon_lol:

The two Dynamix titles were my absolute favorite pc games of all time... add in the very first Microprose B-17 Game.... man... they may have better graphics today, but they still just aren't as good as the originals....

I had both of the Dynamix classics, Aces of the Pacific and Aces over Europe, and was very much looking forward to their third release, Aces over the Desert. It was deflating when it was announced that Dynamix was cancelling that program.

These were Tucker Hatfield's masterpieces, which is strange to say because of course he was partly responsible for CFS and primarily responsible for CFS2. Still, for their day, nothing could top these two releases. It was the immersion level. The two titles had a breadth of historical interest to them. In a way I think everyone wanted the CFS series to capture this historical fidelity and expanse. CFS2 really did the best to get to it. Then came CFS3 and well, things clearly started to morph away from the PC and to the arcade games on Playstation.

Today, it's official. No more CFS and no more FS, at least not on PC's.

I really don't think I ever had as much pure fun as I did playing those two Dynamix titles. Looking back the sounds and graphics are almost laughably unsophisticated. But at the time, we didn't care. It was state-of-the-art at the time. And when you add in that even the best of today don't capture the same immersive feel, it's no wonder we had so much fun with them.

Interestingly no one has mentioned as yet that Dynamix also had a title called Red Baron. I had/have it as well.

Another interesting fact: Dynamix sprung forth from a company called Sierria. A computer game company owned and managed by a woman. :) Pretty unique for the time.

I think Red Baron pre-dated the two Aces titles, I didn't have that one. I think I went from the two Aces to EF2000 which was also pretty good and onto TAW which was absolutely mindblowing. I spent hours and hours on that one blowing up oil refineries and SAM sites along the coast of Yemen. I've never come across a better combat sim than Total Air War :gameon:

I played all of these games obsessively! My favorites were Red Baron and Microprose's B-17. Another great game from about this time was Microprose's Fleet Defender which was a pretty good sim of a F-14 Tomcat. I flew some good missions with that one! One time I vividly remember limping back all shot up, one engine dead, and without guidance or radar and only a compass to guide me, I just happened to spot one of my escorts and turned in the direction it was going and found the carrier. I trapped with like 24 pounds of fuel remaining! Talk about intense! I actually popped a beer after that one.:icon29:

I had the Red Baron game also! I just forgot about it until you mentioned it, Snuffy!

Man, I was such a virtual pilot back then! Thing is at the time, I hadn't the slightest idea I'd scratch that itch in the real world. As good as the sims were, reality is always better! For those looking to scratch that itch for real, I urge you to take the plunge! I haven't met anyone who earned his pilots certificate who regretted doing it! :engel016:

Tucker Hatfield... that's a name I haven't heard in a while. When CFS 1 was the hot new sim, he was a member at Combat Flight Center which eventually became Sim Outhouse.

Boy, that REALLY looks like a super early version of Over Flanders Fields.

I'd love to take "the plunge". You buying Ken? :icon_lol:
