5 July 1944

Flew a sortie from Selsey, over to Normandy to support the invasion. Had to sort out some enemy armor, which my flight did admirably. We also shot up some gunboats on the river, which were giving our boys a hard time. Unfortunately I failed to spot a battery of 88s in time, and the P-51 sustained some damage. Others in the flight were loosing glycol from AA fire.

After nursing the 'stang back over the Channel, the engine cut out just on the final approach. However the p-51 got me home....

Paris Burning

The Allies have battled through to the outskirts of Paris by July 15. The battle rages across this once fair city for over two weeks.
My squadron of hard-working P-51Ds seems to be assigned to a ground attack role. We fly multiple sorties against armored formations in the heart of Paris. Somehow the pesky Germans put a cruiser on the Seine, which caused much havoc. By 31 July 1944 the German hold over Paris was loosening.
At one stage I got drawn to an artillery battle and the screenshot shows a German tracked vehicle receiving a direct hit from a 105mm howitzer - note the crater decal hasn't quite settled on the ground yet...
31 July sees me parked up next to a Consolidated B24 Liberator. Note the NZ flag flying proudly over the airbase - an artifact of a tweak to the country.xml which sees Allied facilities allocated at random to
Allied countries.
