1st Stupid question of 2009 ?

Let's start with the basics of aircraft folders first.

All aircraft of made of these basic folders:
Model
Panel
Sound
Texture

... and at least two more files that make up the flight model:

aircraft.cfg
xxxx.air

When you download an add-on aircraft, it will contain the above folders and files and maybe a couple more:
Effects, Gauges, etc

The download will be compressed usually in a .zip file.

Decompress them to a folder.
The contents typically will look like this"

Aircraft
Effects
Gauges
Readme (usually installation instructions)

Inside the Aircraft folder will be a specifically named folder for the aircraft like beech90.
Inside that folder wil be the model, panel, sound, and texture folders, and the aircraft.cfg and xxxx.air files.

The contents of the Effects folder goes into the FS9/Effects folder.

The contents of the Gauge folder can go to the FS9/Gauges folder.

Once you put it all where they belong, you are ready to fly.

Hope this helps, and I'm sure others will expound on this simple explanation.

I think that covers it pretty well, but if you need more detail you can find tutorials on all the big FS download sites like AvSim, FlightSim or SimV. You'll also find tutorials for installing scenery and whatever else.

Great job on that tutorial Milton.

If I might add something to that.

If you have your FS installation on another drive other then C: drive, and its an auto-installer, then make sure it installs into the right Drive. Some do not detect the drive that FS is in, so they will put it in the wrong place. To bypass this, create a desktop 'Temp' folder, run the installer, direct the install into that Temp folder, then after its done, manually transfer the files to your FS installation.

Nah Curt's question cannot qualify as a real stupid question I have one though and I sincerely hope it is the firts stupid question for 2009.

So here it is:

Have some of you experienced some stutters with 2009 I'm still with 2008 and I'm unsure that my rig will handle 2009 well. Think I should wait for 2010 and upgrade then...

Any Inputs?

Thanks

You are outdated! Sell your rig and get a WII or X-box. :focus::rapture:
