24H2 - Good, Bad, Indifferent?

I keep getting the notification to d/l and install 24H2, but now that it's been out for a bit, I'm wondering if anyone here has installed it and if it has had any impact on the 2020 sim. Thoughts?

It depends on your hardware. In the meantime, there have been fixes released by M$, but we know what they are worth, right? :D

I did a quick check, you shouldn't have issues. It's especially the people with 14th generation intel processors and RTX40XX GPU's who have issues. You're good.

And for the rest of you who have REALLY old hardware, stay away from it!

It’s fine if you’re being offered it. The drivers/anti-cheat apps/etc that are problematic will keep Windows from offering you the update if they’re installed.

The only exception is if you own a Windows Mixed Reality headset like the HP G2. 24H2 “deprecates” WMR, which was the last straw on me ever buying hardware that requires active support from Microsoft again.

If you have a WD Black SSD, you should update the firmware. 24H2 was causing crashes on that drive. Since I updated the firmware, I have no problems at all with 24H2.

Just a word of warning, if you use an HP Reverb G2, it will no longer work because 24H2 disables Mixed Reality.

I don't fly VR, so no worries there. I installed it over the weekend and my first test proved only slightly interesting. My NVidia App (used to be GeForce Experience) frame counter starts with the opening trio of video files. It used to peak during that part at the mid 1300's, while settling down to the 50-60's after the sim if fully running. In-flight frames depend on plane/weather/scenery. After the update, in-flight frames are comparable, but the opening videos on my one test hit over 1500. I imagine if I was a video producer of some sort, my life might be a little easier after the update, but for me, it's "OK - that's kinda cool" and then on with the rest of my day. As long as I don't see any negatives, I won't complain.

Now I just have a pair of laptops to get updated. Maybe this coming weekend.
