47 Squadron Beauforts

Ravenna

SOH-CM-2023
Hi All,

I've searched all over the place but I can't find a book or a web page which will show me the colours and markings for the Beauforts operated by 47 squadron RAF in the MTO late in 1942. Does anyone have a profile, painting or photo showing one?

thanks,
Mike

Roy Conyers Nesbit wrote a book called 'The Armed Rovers. Beaufort and Beaufighters over the Mediterranean'.

I've ordered a copy through the library and it should hopefully be in by the weekend. I'll have a shufti at the photos in it for you mike.

I've got the book and unfortunately there are no 47 squadron photos. There is one photo, but it doesn't say which unit.

I've also got "Torpedo Leader" by Patrick Gibbs, there are a couple of Beaufort photos, but they are 39 squadron.

Here are two single page PDFs I made from from "Warpaint Series 50 - Bristol Beaufort", that have a couple of 47 Squadron pics and a jpg with sample codes.

Thanks Guys,
Yes Merlin, 47 did use Beauforts from October 42 until early 1943. With the help of SAAF Blenheim Vs and CC Beaufighters they were responsible for sinking the Italian tanker "Proserpina" (often called Rommel's last tanker).
I have "The Armed Rovers"...thanks Hewman and Editor...and as you point out Ed, it doesn't give a clear of ANY Beaufort markings. It is however a great read.
Thank you Boatz for posting the above!
Now if only someone would make a Blenheim V, aka Bisley!!!

Are any of the serials visible in the photos? If so I can check my 'Air Britain' books to find the units.

Got out my John D R Rawlings 'Squadrons' last night and looked up 47 Sqn.

Here are those MkIs that were listed:

DD978 'X'
DE111 'V'
DE112 'R'
DE119 'P'
DW811 'P'
DW829 'M'

All cross-referenced with 'Air Britain' as serving with the squadron.
