Anything Airbus can do with the A400M...
Boeing Press release:
The Boeing Company is proud to announce that the historic first flight of the 787 Dreamliner is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. PST (18:00 GMT) on Dec. 15.

That nose popped right up at about the 1,000 foot marker. This puppy looks like it'll perform well. I hope Boeing finally has their crap together and get into accellerated flight testing quickly.

why do they do that? why wouldn't they just take off and fly around?

What a moment...I've been on the "Boeing World Design Team" mailing list since the inception of the programme, and it's been a long haul.
First flight was going to be two years ago!
The live webcast was predictably choked, and the flight was somewhat delayed.
I eventually found coverage closer to home on TVNZ.
As the wings began to flex on the roll, you couldn't help but hold your breath, thinking of those new fasteners at the wing roots...
What a beautiful aircraft in the air!
She's still flying around on a 5-hour first flight, due to end at midnight GMT.

A major milestone, congratulations to the Boeing team.
I know a lot of people had, and have, doubts about the 787 programme, but here's hoping it all comes together now.
It's a brilliant aircraft.

Can't wait for a decent flightsim model!

Oops we do seem to have multiple 787 threads on the go...whatever, it's a big event.
I wonder how you qualified to be one of the T-33 chase plane pilots ;)
I hope there's some video to come from them - pity the weather closed in is all.

That wing is amazingly flexible, and very smart.
Look at how the movable surfaces morph into whatever is necessary - in this case, maximum drag for the rollout
