RobH, I downloaded all four of your 90th BG Liberators last night. I was thrilled to see these four Liberators, especially "Jolly Roger Express" which is one the planes that my Dad flew in. My father served in the 90th BG, 400th BS from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945. My Dad, Staff Sergeant W.A. Scroggins, was an aerial gunner. When the 90th BG first arrived in the SWP, my Dad was a member of 1st Lt. Willard Hatfield's crew. Later he became a relief gunner, serving in whichever crew needed him. The two Liberators that he flew in the most were B-24D #42-40928 "Twin Nifties II" and B-24D1 #41-24286 "Gone with the Wind". He flew as crew in five or six different Liberators with the 400th BS, but those are the two he flew in the most. My Dad put in a total of 300 hours of combat flying time. After serving those 300 hours he was transferred to the Armament Section in a ground crew. My Dad was active in the 90th BG Reunion Association for many years before he passed away in July 2000 at the age of 78.
I have decided that I am going to fly all four of your 90th BG B-24s on the same route across the Pacific that the 90th BG took from 1942 until they ended the war on the island of Ie Shima, Okinawa in 1945. I am going to start at Hickam Field in Hawaii and fly the Liberators to Samoa, then to New Caledonia, Amberley Field in Australia, Mareeba Airfield in Australia to Iron Range airfield in Australia and then to Port Moresby in New Guinea, to Dobodura Airfield and then to Nadzab Airfield, both in Papua New Guinea. It will take me a while to do these initial legs flying in real time. My Dad would have been thrilled to have seen the great work you did on these Liberators. Thank you for your hard work on these historic planes. Great Job!!!
I have numerous pics that my Dad made during the War with alot of different 400th BS B-24s. I would post them here, but I don't know how to post pics here.
