A couple questions about scenery

I have downloaded the freeware scenery packs from Alpha Sim..since I was there grabbing freeware aircraft. Before I install them have a question or two.

I am familiar with installing scenery in CFS2...how much different is installing scenery in FS2004?

I have seen a lot of reference to AFCAD? What is it, what does it do, how do I make it, is it included with most add on scenery packs or do I need to make one for each pack?

Finally...have seen some killer screen shots taken in an add on Switzerland/Alps scenery/mesh pack. Where is that package from?

AFCAD lets you modify airport features like AI parking and routes, runways and the like.

Adding scenery is pretty easy. just go into the add scenery menu, find where the scenery is, close FS9, restart and it should be there.

I don't have CFS 2 but adding scenery in fs9 is easy.

but I will leave answering that question to someone else who may have a good tutorial link at hand.

AFCAD can be found here. http://www.simviation.com/simviation/static.php?ID=201&page=1

It allows you to modify airports by adding runways, taxiways, parking, and nav aids. It can not add a flatten, modifiy terrain, or add buildings.

You may want to down load Traffic Tools it is for makin AI traffic.

No idea about the Swiss mesh

Obi,

adding scenery is exactly the same as CFS2, the AFCADs only come into play if you want to edit taxiways, aprons, runways, parking and such. You can intall those provided as-is just like installing scenery for CFS2. If it says it wants to be in the add-on scenery folder, fine, but it doesn't have to be, you could create a separate folder as long as you stick to the right folder format (scenery/texture folders).

Knowing you, you'll want to tinker with AFCAD, but it doesn't alter the folder structure any. Generally the heirarchy of scenery layers follows the same rules, world and mesh at the bottom, addons above that and airfields above that. There are some nuances with some scenery, but the readme's will keep you right.

There's some different Alps mesh packages around,if you want payware then grab Switzerland Pro by Flylogic

for freeware then there's Holger Sandmann and Jonathan de Ferranti's
alpsw_fe.zip at avsim, and fsgenesis freeware, but for the whole region you need to go here

OBIO, I think the "Swiss Alps" thread you were thinking of was this one:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=3917&highlight=connie

In post #12 Tom Clayton references the Avsim page but the link is hidden in his text: "here", so here's the link on it's own:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=80801&CatID=fs2004scen

Also, there's another thread running about AFCAD, etc that you might want to follow:

I had posted that at a time when I'd forgotten where I got my Alps mesh. What I actually have is alps19_1.zip, alps19_2.zip, and alps19_3.zip from Flightsim.com. But as far as I can tell, just about any addon mesh files will provide similar results if they're accurate.
