A daft question about AI & Afcads

AndyG43

SOH-CM-2023
OK, I should know this, but I'm unsure so thought it best to ask!

Here is the premise - you have a basic FS2004 airport, with their standard AFCAD (i.e. limited or no parking spaces etc); you have an AI package setup to operate from that airport. So will the package work in the air, but the aircraft disappear upon landing as they have nowhere to taxi ti; or wil it not work at all?

Any help gratefully accepted.

Hi Andy,

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that after landing the planes will disappear due to the absence of parking spaces, but the airborne portion should function as it should.

Alastair

:salute:Andy, in my experience you may not even get the air traffic, but including extra parking space is a doddle. If you're going to use the airport its worth doing.
You probably know that there are literally masses of afcad improvements available at Flightsim. Just do a quick search and you'll probably come up with the airport in question.
May I ask which airport you have in mind?

p.s. Andy, there's nothing daft about your question my friend, the daft thing is not to ask!

Ah, so not so daft a question after all. :-(

No, the airfields in question are not out there; it refers back to my earlier thread about the Indian AF - there were some very comprehensive AI packs released at Avsim for Indian AF fighter AI, but not the Afcads to support them - as I hadn't seen much in the Indian skies while flying there I wondered if this might be the problem.

Real world stuff is preventing me spending much time on FS stuff - hence the lack of movement on the Lincoln paintkits, and not finding the time needed to make the Indian Afcads using Google Earth images. Bizarrely, I find more time to post on here during the day (when I am at work, and while waiting for reports to run/update) than I do at home.

Had to chuckle - a few years ago I had a collaborator on some projects who did most of his FS work while he was at work. When he retired and his time was all his own, he found that he no longer had time for the hobby!

As for your Indian Air Force bases, you might find it less daunting to add parking if you just fire up AFCAD and add some spaces and taxi routes to the existing stock FS9 airports. They wouldn't be any more accurate than what MS provided, but they'd be no less accurate, and they'd support AI traffic. It might be a quick and easy fix to hold you over until you had time to do a more elaborate job.

Andy, Alistair has it pretty well covered - when they disappear after touchdown, there is no suitable parking available because:
- no parking bays at all
- no bay of suitable radius available, or all such in use.
- all suitable bays reserved for specific airlines, and your AI is not one of them.

Hope this helps
