A good sound for the Bassler BT67

I'm interested in suggestions on what other then the usual Dehavilland DH series or Pilatus series would come close based on attached video of REAL deal. When the engines start up and
props spin, it sounds more like a lot of hissing or wind noise then when the plane taxi's on out, there is a little tone as the pilot revs it up more and it rolls out.

It seams to sound like it is unique in and of itself then at times you can almost think of a similar sound pack on a different turbo prop.

As someone who has worked the ramp with quite a few PT-6 powered aircraft. I can say that the Basler's sound is dang close to a standard King Air. You can see in the video, the engines are started with the props in the feathered position, hence the whooshing sound rather than the usual prop growl. The P&W PT-6 turboprop is a "Free Turbine" turboprop. The prop reduction gear is driven by gas flow rather than a direct connection to the main turbine shaft like in the Allison/Garret/Rolls Royce Turboprops. It works quite a bit like a car's automatic transmission with a torque converter.

If you were brave enough, you could hold on to a prop on a PT-6 while it started and it wouldn't spin. The second you let it move a little and your friends would be calling you stumpy. :icon_eek:

Anyway. the growl you hear later in the vid is the pilot pulling the props out of feather and the RPM increasing giving you the growl. the turbine whoosh when the camera man moves is probably the only difference from a King Air due to the unique exhaust on a Basler. With the forward stacks on a KA, the whoosh is blended into the prop noise.

The problem with FS Turboprops wanting to suddenly move when starting would be solved by starting them like the real planes are (PT-6 powered) and start with the prop feathered. Once the initial "surge" has settled down, move the props back into the high rpm setting. (Also helps to keep the condition levers in low idle as well)

Just my $0.02

PS: if you have one of the Carenado King Air's, alias the sound to that plane. I even have my default King air aliased to my Carenado C-90.
