A late X-mas present for the RAF!

The Pfalz 1370/17 has a very interesting story. It was one of the first Pfalz D.IIIs supplied to the front units and was flown by the famous ace Werner Voss when he was commanding Jasta 10. However Voss prefered the new Fokker triplane amd the Pfalz was flown by other pilots. On December 27, 1917 it was flown by the unexperienced vizefeldwebel Hecht. After a dogfight he was forced to land behind in allied territory, near St. Quentin in France by an Armstrong Whitworth F.K.8 of no. 35 Squadron, R.F.C. As Pfalz was undamaged it was taken to the UK where it was evaluated by the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough.

I intend to make a similar package as with the Pfalz which was interned by the Dutch. I will make one package with the German textures and textures for the version as it flew with the RAF.

I decided to give Hecht's aircraft the green tail section as Ltn d R Hans Klein already had a yellow tail section. As the colour from the tail was used to identify the individual pilot, it is not likely there were two aircrafts in Jasta 10 with a yellow tail. After looking at the different pictures from this aircraft closely I also choose to paint the band around the fuselage black & white.

No worry as there will be a "yellow"tail as well as I did a repaint depecting Ltn d R Hans Klein's Pfalz as well ;)

Cheers,
Huub

Goodness man, you are becoming quite the intellectual one on historic air warfare of WWI, right down to the actual days, names, color preferences....

Cees, when do you estimate he will run out of Pfalz' aircraft to paint? :d

Very impressive Huub!

And the RFC version.

While it was tested by the RFC, it kept its original colours, but it received a new registration number and British national markings.

Thanks for the nice words Bill. Actually I think I find the research more interesting than the repaint itself :costumes:.

For this particular Pfalz there are already 3 known paint schemes, so it might take a while before I run out of posibilities ;) :costumes:

Thanks guys, the repaints are in the queue. Like with the interned one, I made one package with both repaints.

Enjoy,
Huub

Splendid again Huub! :applause:

Where do you find the time? Tis the season I am most busy I am afraid. Will be flying one or the other tonight.

Thanks Caz, the weather is not very inviting to do a bit of cycling. Therefore I have some extra time. However once you have set up a decent layered paint file you can do a repaint within an hour.

Normally you only see I those I want to upload, but actually I do many repaints you normally will never see.

The ones which won't be uploaded:

The first version from the "interned" Pfalz. According to Greg VanWyngarden it had lozenge wings and a "chocolate brown" fuselage.
However after looking careful at the available pictures and reading some expert opinions at the Aerodrome forum, the Pfalz most likely had standard silver dope wings and the fusleage wasn't really as dark as dark "chocolade".

There ae several profiles from Heldmann's Pfalz. Personally I like this one, with the yellow nose from Jasta10 and the white band around the fuselage. However I couldn't find any evidence for this scheme.

My wife insisted that I did a repaint for her. Not that she is interested in aviation or flightsimming, but nevertheless she wanted one so I did this one for here. The "keys" stand for Leiden, which is the city she was born. And you should recognise the dog :costumes:

I have already finished the next one, but I hate making the zip files and to write the e-mails, so I might wait a few days with this one ;)

Cheers.

Huub,
Either the dog is a Dutch Shepard dog or a Saarlooswolfhond.
