Keep an eye out over at Avsim & Flightsim, something interesting arriving today or tomorrow. Mike Hudson has kindly adapted his FSX Royal Navy ships for use as FS9 scenery objects, the package will be called "RN Escort Vessels"; there will be 3 Leander class frigates, 3 Amazon class, 3 County class (Type 42) destroyers and 3 Lion class cruisers - all, except HMS Lion, have hard landable decks. So now we can set up some nice escort groups for Ark Royal, and a bigger task force for the Falklands.

He is currently working on the Type 22 frigate, which will he will release for both FSX and FS9. And there may be a few other surprises coming from other developers too. :kilroy:

Waheeey god bless you Mike Hudson! Sorry Andy I tried to resist, but County class destroyers and Type 42 destroyers are completely different and Tiger, not lion, class cruisers. ;)

Happy to be corrected, freely admit this is not my main area of expertise. And I thought you might be happy to see these arrive!

Over the moon mate, if it weren't for a medical issue I'd be in the navy now, my only area of expertise lol.

Is anyone else getting CTD's when they use these, ive installed them going by the read-me, i can get the Leander to show, but not having much luck with the other models, ive also try'd installing the bgl's stright into the Addon-scenery/scenery folder and texture's into the texture folder, but things ar'nt any better. just wonder'd if anyone else is having problems.
cheers ian

The Leanders and Type 21's work great but the Countys and Tigers give me a CTD.

Not had a chance to use them as yet; I've always used RWY12 for object placement, but have been thinking about getting EZ Scenery or Instant Scenery for a while - if I do that today I'll be able to give my feedback as well.

Ok just tried manually placing one of the countys with bgl comp. The model showed but no textures. I then tried model converter x changed the guid and saved as FS9 mdl re-edited the xml and she shows perfectly now.

Think my RNAS Portland scenery is going to get some more residents must play with these!

I am sorry to hear some of you are having CTD with the FS9 versions. I am not aware of the reason, and have not been able to replicate it. The County class are heavey with 15000 polygons compared to Leander with 5400, so I would expect trouble with these first. I had to drastically reduce the number of polygons in the sea slug missiles to get the County class to show fully when placing with Instant Scenery or EZ Scenery in FS9. It appeared to be related to the number of polygons in a small area.

Secondly in order to get the hard deck I had to export from FSDS 3 as a .x file, then add the part data def for the hard deck, then create the model using Make MDL. Creating the model direct from FSDS seems to give a more stable model, but no hard deck.

If the problem persists I am more than willing to try and overcome it, but at the moment would require more information and suggestions.

Regards,
Mike.

Firstly, thank you for making these models and taking the time to convert them to FS9. Secondly, the CTD only happens for me when selecting the county and tiger models for placement with EZ scenery. I can get them in manually with bgl comp, but there was an issue with the textures not showing. As I mentioned above I opened with model converter x and changed the guid and resaved as fs9 mdl. That fixed it, I don't know if it's a problem with the guid numbers, the way they were compiled as a library or something else.

Mike,

firstly, thanks for these models, great stuff!! Admittedly I haven't tried them as my FS is completely FUBAR at the moment, but I know for sure I'll like them.

Secondly, one suggestion, if the FSDS models compile better direct, do just that, hardened surfaces could be supplied by AFD files using the old dummy AFD sea level flatten trick? Would also allow start points on each deck. I know the user would have to create these for each placed ship, but no probs for them scenery folks who upload their creations for others. Bit tricky for the newby, but I guess if they're placing library objects they may also be familiar with AFCAD?

just a though,
Jamie

Hello Hooky. This needs a .xml file and a set of images to go in your Rwy12 Object Placer folder. The libraries need to be placed in Static Object Library folder in Addon Scenery. I will prepare a set of these and upload to avsim and flightsim.

Regards,
Mike.
