A little different type of country song...

1. Country music makes my ears bleed.

2. It is nice to hear some music about the reality in America, rather than the crazy exorbitant patriotism you usually hear. You know, the kind of stuff that makes me absolutely sick when I have to listen to it at airshows. The kind of stuff that makes me ashamed to be an American at an international event like Airventure, with people from Australia and Malta sitting next to me. :blind: :pop4:

3. Country music makes my ears bleed.

I agree...it's nice to hear a more realistic commentary on some of today's ills. For me, it's better than the "guns and Jesus" kind of stuff some of the country artists give us.

Country music does not make my ears bleed though. A lot of it makes my heart sing (R.I.P. - George Jones! :salute: )

Marc

Besides, some of the guitar riffs in that song sound a little like Clapton.

and i suppose this in the tube below will repair your bleeding ears?......atleast you can understand Denae Gardner's words...

Hey All,

Great song - uh not the metal (sorry). JMO

Another

Finally people singing it like it is - doing with music more of what music should do - ala Dylan. Until a country faces problems realistically and practically no solutions will ever be found. Ideology alone has never solved a thing. Never will.

Hello-

Does anyone else here remember the song 'Monster' by Steppenwolf, from the album of the same name? I mean the whole Monster/Suicide/America trilogy on the album, as opposed to the single... I've never needed to look much further than this song for a statement about where the country's been and where it may be headed- still pretty relevant lyrics, considering the song's 45 years old now... and written by an emigrant, if I understand correctly...

Hey All,

Still playing that first song a fair bit - love the tone of the lead - thinkin it's a PRS? Anyway the song couldn't possibly describe America today better. So I looked Denae Gardner up. Originally from Auburn CA singin the national anthem at dirt bike races at age 9. Family moved to the Boise Idaho area when she was 15 and started playin the bars at that age - 21 now. SMART MOVE (CA to ID)!! Home of the Boise State Broncos. Been developing her singing ever since. Does that rockin country Mississippi blues bluegrass thing. Being from Idaho she no doubt at least knows of the first family of country music from Idaho - the Braun family. The four Braun brothers do that rockin red dirt country thing outta Austin now but have a big Braun Brothers reunion in Challis every summer. They do socially conscious music as well. Here is their latest from 6 months or so ago.

Good thread.

Interesting perspective(s) guys. Thanks!

Interesting, but since I don't live in or near a city with problems such as she sings about, it doesn't really reflect life in my part of the country.

I'm not a huge country fan but we have a local boy we've taken a liking to, Matt Mason. He's more of a traditional 50's country singer (a little bit of Merle in his style).

Ed,
Thanks for the link.

Knowing Miss Denae personally, I can attest that she's the real deal 'country', none of this half-faked stuff that seems to be popular today. She actually just returned from Nashville, having recorded her first official album. I think it will be available on itunes pretty soon!

Also thanks for the link Mr. Jackson. Neat style that boy has!

Good for her, that gal has some real cojones to dare sing about real life. :salute: I only hope the country music industry has the courage to support her. I think this 'real life' exists both in the city and country. Sure, there are nice pockets around that don't see these problems, but there are certainly a few of areas out in the country that are poverty stricken, riddled with drug and crime problems. The Blues has been singing about this 'real life' for a long time.

Cheers

Hey All,

I'll do a couple more.

This one from a two time world champion bullrider.

As for Denae I been trying to find out what guitar Eddie Perez is playing in that vid - great tone.

Hey All,

Maybe a Tomkins - look at 1:04 and you see no tele controls and at 2:17 you see the humbuckers. Also look at the finish looks like a lot of PRS but it isn't the headstock is wrong. Anyway at 2:17 you see Eddie doing what Eddie does picking over the bridge humbucker to get more twang. I have always liked Eddie Perez picking - the tone and the energy is always there. I won't say he is as technically good as Kenny Vaughan or Brad Paisley or Red Volkaert and the like but what he does and the way he does it is great listening.

Anyway with the doings in Syria this one may be relevant again.

Yeah, now that you mention it.
At 1:02-1:04 the way the body is cut and the headstock looks most like a Tomkins, to me anyway.
Hard to tell anymore, seems like everyone has their own custom guitars these days, and/or signature series. :kilroy:
