A nice day at the zoo (Lots of photo's)

Yesterday we had quite a nice day over here; no rain for the first time in days, and since I took a week off I decided to grab my camera and go to the local zoo to shoot some photo's. Thought I'd share a few with you!

The Humbold penguins:

Inside the 'Bush', basically an indoor jungle the size of a football stadium:

You are surrounded by birds, fruit bats, small reptiles and mammals inside:

A small owl inside the 'desert', a small part of the Sonoma desert, also inside a large hall:

A bobcat in the same area (Safely in a cage) :

Some of the fish, which are quite hard to photograph:

The zebra's:

A few of the pelicans:

On to my favourite animals, the large cats!

Lion cubs, about a year old IIRC:

Since almost a year the zoo has tigers again, now in a new enclosure. Three female Sumatran tigers:

Wait, are we both on the same side of the fence..?

And finally (Kept the cutest ones for the end): Three panther cubs!

Some of the shots could almost take me there. The managing of the environment was very original.

Nice shots

Beautiful shots Ferry. :applause:

Bobcats are native and very prevalent in the wild where I live. You should here one wail. Scare the bejesus out of you.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Here's one I forgot to add; it an overview of the 'Sonoma desert' hall, which is linked to the jungle by an underground tunnel. The hall is about 300 by 300 foot and has a special roof structure to regulate the ventilation and temperature. During the winter the temperature inside will drop to about 60, but in the summer it will be around 90-100 degrees inside. There are several species of birds, from cardinals and finches to two big birds of prey, and several types of lizards that can move about freely. Other animals like pecari's, bobcats, skunks, gila monsters, rattle snakes and the bighorn sheep are all contained in an enclosure, but these are contructed so that these will blend into the enviroment as much as possible. The best time to visit this place is early summer when all the flowers are in bloom and the place just smells great (Not like sheep dung like it does the rest of the year.. ;) )

Nice shots....I'm a cat person and the bobcat photo looks just like my Manz kitten...although the bobcat looks really serious and would do more than just wrestle with a sock !

You do mean Manx don't you Odie?

My wife and I have had two Manx and currently have one. Bobcats have bobtails, a true thoroughbred Manx has no tail at all. Any Manx with a bobtail is a half-breed.
