A Question About Steve McClelland's Far East Scenery

Hi all,

I've installed the Far East scenery for use with Fox Four's Korean War missions/campaigns and while doing some free flight exploring to familiarize myself with the geography, I came across something unusual. I started FF at Suwan, which is a dirt airstrip, located at N37* 14.64' E126* 59.89',elevation 85'. Flying almost due south by approximately 10.5 miles (N37* 5.25' E127* 1.74', elevation 36') I discovered another airbase considerably more built up with a concrete runway, however, I am unable to select it from the menu in FF.

I loaded mission builder and went to Suwan (the dirt airstrip) which is marked by the crossed airstrip icon, but there is no icon over the "mystery" airstrip.

Additionally, when I load a mission from Fox Four, it starts at the dirt airstrip with parked aircraft. My question is can anybody identify this unlabeled airstrip?

Thanks for your time and help,

TW

Hi Rami,

I've already downloaded, but not installed those scenery files. Are they compatible with the Fox Four missions, or will I have to do some editing?

Thanks,

TW

TW,

I think all missions would have to be modified. It is not hard to do, but I am currently swamped with projects and do not want to take on another one at the moment.

"phantom fields"..

TW, I saw that several years ago and asked TR ( when he was still around) about it. IIRC, It seems that they are from FS98 or something or other that was the basis for the Far East scenery. You can land on it and taxi around but you will not find the field. It you look around also while on the way there you will possibly locate a flight of F-86's that will not show on the target screen. When I had inquired with TR he said they may look into it but then somethings radically seemed to have changed and no more apparently was done about it.
That's all I can recall about them.

Talon gave me an updated FF set for use with SW's bases. I'll have to look for them. I also have a list of the missing bases. Again I'll have to look. Hopefully I still have them all.

If Not,

Talon was able to swap out the bases in a day or so. So for the rest of us it might take a week. Only the Red Star and Hunters campaigns are really affected. Though Panthers might be as well. I think Ocean Fury is OK as is.

I'll let you know if I find them.

Not sure but,

Try this for the the missing bases. In Talons USAF Campaign he has another set for the airbase.dat. It might have different numbers.

Hi guys.

Thanks very much for the replies. Looks like I'll have to uninstall McClelland's scenery and go with Shadow Wolf 07's. I'm sure I can figure out how to translate the FF missions/campaigns for the different scenery, however, I believe there is a bridge that goes with one of the Panther missions a la Bridges at Toko-Ri.

Another question I have is if I remove the original CFS2 Pacific entries in the airbase.dat file and just go with the entries specific to North and South Korea, do I start with [runway.0] and keep the original id number?

Thanks again for your help,

TW

TW..

....you can take out all the old bases and just go with the ones for the Korean missions\campaigns. You would have to start with the "0" and then numerically proceed. It is suggested that you keep all the field id's as it appears that there was a attempt to keep those identifiers constant. That is not to say that you will\can find all missions in agreement as some of the older missions have field numbers designed by the mission creator. As far as changing any field number to a agreement number, I would believe that COULD work but I don't design missions (yet):wavey:

Hi Fibber,

I get it. When I opened a mission in notepad, I observed the entry(s) regarding airbase(s). Obviously how they are numbered (as far as the id number goes) but be the same in the airbase.dat, otherwise I will start from, or be directed to the wrong airbase. Thank you for clarifying this.

The red "x" can be any number starting from 0 to around 199 without error. once you go over 200 you can start to run into errors. I've heard that some have gone higher but I don't suggest it. You will want to keep the id numbers the same for any installed scenery and campaigns. If you make new airfields you can use any combination of numbers but do not duplicate any existing numbers. It will also cause problems.

Talon redid

The Hunters and used some different planes in it.He used the F-86A in the beginning of the campaign

Bunker Hill with some new scenery added

Ocean Fury

He also had 2 new campaigns for Korea he never released.

China Intervention-He fixed the jets so the would do ground and ship attacks and they worked very well.

Saber Aces. Another good campaign. you start flying the F-86A and later the E model. He also did some work on the Migs and they were tougher to shoot down and did a lot of damage to your flights.
