A question for RW GA pilots

I am currently modelling a GA plane for FSX and I have a question for any RW GA pilots on here.

My aircraft has a push/pull knob to control the cowl flaps (like a shorter version of a throttle knob) but I have been unable to establish whether you push to open or push to close the flaps.

Does anyone know if there is a 'standard' or 'accepted' way of setting the cowl flap lever operation (i.e. is it all the way in for cowl flaps open or all the way in for cowl flaps closed)?
 
The only planes I flew that had cowl flaps were levers just below the throttle quadrant. Up - Closed, Down - Open. I believe Stiz is correct for the knob jobs. Out=open. But sometimes manufacturers like to be different...If memory serves...the Beech Duchess fuel selectors went Left/Right-Crossfeed-Off. Piper Seminole went Left/Right-Off-Crossfeed. :isadizzy: Some radio stacks had the Com1-Com2 selector rotate clockwise, which made sense. Later models had them go counter clockwise Com1-Com2. I embarrased myself a few times with ATC switching to the wrong com:icon_lol:

Cowl Flaps
The cowl flaps are operated by a push pull control, located below the throttle. They must be open during all ground operations, take-off and climb. Their opening may be adjusted during flight to control engine operating temperature by turning control counter-clockwise to unlock and pushing to open or pulling to close. The control is turned clockwise to lock cowl flaps in desired position.
