The PH-TDW was an ex RAF C-47A-25-DK, which was turned into a civil aircraft after the war. It remained in use by the KLM until 1970. In the 1954 KLM re-registered their aircraft under a different system, whereby the lead letter represented the manufacturer ("D" for Douglas, "L" for Lockheed etc). Under this scheme PH-TDW became PH-DAW. In april 1955 it was transfered to KLM Aerocarto NV at Schiphol. Most work for KLM Aerocarto NV was in Surinam and both the PH-DAW and PH-DAA went to Zanderij in Parimaribo. The PH-DAA crashed during bad weather in 1968. The PH-DAW stayed in use until summer 1970 when it was registration as PZ-TLA. However the days for the C-47 were over and the registration was cancelled in June 1972. After which the aircraft was left abandoned and slowly taken apart. When you want this repaint make sure to download the correct version as I made the same repaint for FSX as well.
In 1949, the date of this livery, the PH-TDW flew scheduled flights between Amsterdam and Manchester.
I wish to thank Maarten (Brouwer) and Jan (Visser) for guiding me through the jungle called "early KLM liveries".
Cheers,
Huub
