Does anyone know whether this repaint has been done before for the A2A Messerschmitt Bf109 E-3? If not I will upload it.

Cheers,
Huub

Sorry I forgot to describe the subject. This repaint depicts the Bf109 E-1 flown by Gruppenkommandeur Major Gotthardt Handrick from I./JG26 in special markings used during Luftwaffe summer exercises in 1939.

Cheers,
Huub

Bonjour Huub,

I found one which would seem to match your subject but not 100% if we look at the tail and the hat... :kilroy:
It was done by Cees Donker and this is the description given :
"title=Bf109E-1D from the I/JG 26, Cologne, Germany, Summer 1939." and it is flown by Gottardt Handrick !
Could it be that some paint was added for the Summer exercises to the tail and hat ?

See the pic !

Anyway, such a peculiarity surely deserves to be represented in my hangar and I will be looking forward to your skin !

Best regards,

Fleurdelys

Interesting additions Huub! (And great looking repaint as usual!) The profile I used comes from the Jagdwaffe series. And yours?

:wavey:

Cees

Cees, this profile can be found in the book "JG26 vol.I Schlageter" by Krzysztof Janowicz. You can find a similar profile at Michael Reimer's web-site http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/CFS2_Profiles/ETO_AXIS_Luftwaffe_JG26.html (scroll down until I.Gruppe).

However profiles are nice, but the real thing is better. On page 7 from "The JG26 War Dairy volume one 1939 -1942 " by Donald Caldwell you can find a picture from this aircraft during the excercises in 1939. This is most likely the picture om which profiles are based. On page 8 you can find a close up showing the Top-hat.
This dairy is actual good quite reading as JG26 was part of the German forces which invaded the low countries and France. Since I have read this book I know Oblt. Karl Ebbighausen shot the last Fokker T.V and the unknown Fokker G.1 which was escorting it.

Cheers,
Huub

For those who have missed it, its available> link

Gotthardt Handrick was a gold medalist during the Olympics from 1936. He was in charge of Jagdgruppe 88 from the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil war and was commanding several fighter units from the Luftwaffe during WWII. Handrick survived the war and died in May 1978 at an age of 69 years old.

The texures were made using the more than excellent paintkit made by Martin "ICDP" Catney. The included propeller texture is done by Bob "BananaBob" Rivera.

Enjoy,
Huub

PS Sorry, but red doesn't show very well on a jpg picture.
