34 missions, untold hours, medals, promotions, just bit the big one. I was warping home at 5000' and tried to turn off the warp about 10 miles from home but the warp stuck, next thing I know, plane nosed in, big fireball. :censored:

Don't ya hate it when it does that?
It happened to me in an N11 once. I never made it back home, I hit something enroute. Maybe it was another aircraft, a balloon, or I bounced too close to a supernova! Whatever it was, it ended my trip most rikki-tikki!

The worst part is having to start all over. If I join the same squadron, the date reverts to the start date again, it doesn't pick up as if I were a replacement for the just dead pilot.
I was running late for a Drs appointment, mission took longer than it should have, maybe head winds. I just wanted to knock 15 miles off the return flight, but I couldn't dis-engage the warp.

And the moral of the story is don't let a computer fly your precious pilot home ;)

Hey, BAYWING
When I get disturbed, or have to get something done quickly, I press "pause". Although that's not very realistic, I prefer to fly my plane and pilot home myself, later. I don't like the warp, as it kills the feeling, and now I even read, it can be dangerous. I've got 5 Iron Crosses and 24 confirmed victories with my Albatros D II so far, and I'll never warp that to risk.
Well, I think, you won't do it again either?
Have a happy new year anyway.

You are right Olham, I'll use pause or something else next time. I'm just back from my first mission balloon busting and they won't give me credit. I had 3 other Albatros (Albatrii??) wingmen right next to me (I remembered to hit R before I dove in). I never knew blind men could fly. The Dr told me today I'm stressed out and my BP was up. I think this may be bad for my health.......

Theres probably gonna be a Surgeon Generals warning on the side of BHAH!

Hey, BAYWING, cool down, cool down. I've never yet got a confirmation for a single (and I shot 3 or 4 now) balloon, and GIMPY said it too - it's just the way it is. When I get a balloon mission, I shoot the damn thing, and then look around for some Nupes to flavour the list. Cause they WOULD get confirmed.
Wish you a happy new year!

It's also a bad idea to fly when you are tired. I was returning from the front and was trying to stay awake to finish the flight, and when I nodded out, I let go of the stick, and two hours later when I woke, I was (my virtual pilot) reported deceased in a fatal crash. Ah well, I had only been in combat for 15 months having enlisted during Bloody April. And we had just been issued our first DVIIs a few days prior too.

Regarding balloons, I seem to recall having read somewhere that the Germans and British didn't credit them..not sure about the French. The Americans did, and the Belgians, too, I believe. In fact, balloons contributed quite a bit to both Willi Coppens's (Belgian) and Frank Luke's (American) totals.

I don't like warping, either. Used it a few times while I was getting used to OFF, but since I started my campaigns in earnest the "X" key might as well not even exist.

haha That's devotion to realism right there! "MUST... NOT ..... FALL ...... ASLEEP........Agggghhh..."

Wife: "Why dont you just warp?"

You: "BLASPHEMY!!!...... aggggh..... zzzzzz ..zzzzzzz .zzzzzz"

Baywing,

If you would have just hit the "Pause" button instead of "Warp", you could have had a three or four hour flight! 'Cause the time ticker keeps tickin' even when the plane's not going anywhere.

I've found it best to press 'R' repeatedly, dead men make terrible witnesses, Best RUN from any action, on the way home. You might make it, without a scratch, but they MUST. If you do everything right, good average is 1 accept out of 4. And you're awarded, 'claimed destroyed' in your log

The rest are for the glory of the fatherland :costumes:

EDIT: There never is credit for downing a Gas Bag, except on a designated Balloon Mission. And while flying for RNAS-8, I've gotten the 'claim destroyed' about 11 times in Phase 2, but that's an awful lot of AWE SCHITTS :banghead::banghead::banghead:
