AAC Still Flying!

~S~ Gents.....I've been off for quite awhile, but the AAC is still flying strong and advancing this game for Multiplayer. Here are some shots of our latest mission...I'm still in awe! We called it "Sink the Tirpitz"!

that looks pretty cool,
and is that flak, i see?
that's new, isn't it?
is it dangerous,
or just harmless black puffs?

hmmm, is it part of the scenery?
ie, Martin Wright's flak?

i guess the question is,
do the players have to install it for the mission,
or is it, somehow, already there?

:wavey:Hello smilo!

This is done by "swapping" a mission file with Multiplayer.mis file. The trick is to find (or create) a mission which has a good "flak layer" in it. Mission swapping is nothing new, but, as you know, makes for quite unrealistic multiplayer games; you simply cant see what other players are destroying.

But flak is another ball game altogether! First; if you are hurt, you are hurt for everyone else to see. Second; not seeing the blow that hit your wing men was common place in the "real" war. Third; you do see it being hit most of the time because flak response is triggered by the passing of a target within a certain zone, which affects, not only the target, but those seeing the target going through that zone.

The effect is quite realistic and will cause your aircraft to jump all over the place and, when bad luck is at the rendez-vous, will inflict damages, sometimes fatal.

For now, we're using already made mission which I tweak a bit. In this one, for example, I removed all attacking Mosquitoes by "making" them Bf 109G. As AI a/c have no allegiance, they shoot friends or foes without distinction. Axis pilots were told to beware of them (which, incidentally, was not enough to prevent one from being blown to pieces as he was CFOing to his base! LOL!).

I think I will have to make my own to get rid of these very artificial, but very unintelligent, pesky things.

BTW, flak is quite indiscriminate but, according to history, that too was quite common place...:kilroy:

hello hubba,
i hope you didn't think i was ignoring you
or worse, didn't care about your reply.

the advances in mp is an interesting topic
and there's a lot to think about.

first, the incorporation of flak is a major step
and will highly improve immersion. excellent.
even better that it is not a scenery addon
that you have to be sure everyone installs.

as for ai shooting at everyone,
the term "friendly fire" comes to mind.
that could really keep everyone on their toes.

that said, if that becomes a bit much,
i wonder if the number of ais
can be limited in the mission, and also,
if the mission designated ac is not
in a players ac folder, will the default ac show,
or will a failure to load message come up?
for example, will the default spit show, if say,
the mission ai is a raf662 b-17?

Quite frankly, I don't know the answer! In a "normal" mission, you would receive a "loading error" message, but I've never tried in a Multiplayer mission.

But that could be arranged... keep posted!

OK...
I went back to the mission we used for last week game and changed all Bf 109g for Bf 109w and this is the message I got;

So, after hitting the "Close" button, I was able to reach the Ready Room and even change my name, but not the aircraft I was previously using (actually the Tirpitz!!!). So I hit the "Ready" button... and was back on the desktop in no time.

That should answer that question.:salute:
