Abacus FS Repaint problem

I seem to be having on going trouble when using FSrepaint. I don't use it for repainting, but for viewing only. There are two settings for rendering hardware & software.

When I have settings to hardware and view the textures, it always looks like a mix match of a checkerboard affair. But moving the model around for viewing is smooth and crisp.

When I have settings to software and view the textures, everything looks fine. But moving the model around for viewing is very slow and stuttered.

The manual can't give me an answer for a remedy.

Aside from what's mentioned, it otherwise works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this that came up with a cure?

OleBoy, I have the same issue as you with FsRepaint. Does the same with FSX textures also. Ive also gotten memory string errors. Ive reported this and your issues to Abacus. If I hear something before the end of the day i'll post it here.

Thanks Trans (strange calling you by that)

I was going to email them. Figured someone here might have the answer before hand. I'll wait to see what they come up with via answers for you.

Just for the sake of saying "I tried that" I uninstalled it, then re-downloaded from the Abacus website. Same version, same problems afterwards

Sounds like your video card drivers. I've had FS Repaint ever since it came out (I was on the beta team) and I've never had a problem other than the odd model not appearing properly (Mostly FSX defaults) Other than that, I use it 100% for my repaints. I don't use the built in bitmap editor but instead have it set up to use Paintshop.

same way as i do it, external texture editing previewed in FSR, another Old Mike stone forum-member i remember mr. Gladden. :focus: i agree its more than likely GFX driver issues causing it, especially as you mention the stuttering and checkerboarding....

I agree the stuttering is most likely the clue to the puzzle. GPU memory or the access seems to be the problem.
Are you using FSR and your favorite paint program at the same time when you tried this ? Or was only FSR open at the time.

I know that on my old Laptop I would have to close the texture editor (PSP) to free up much needed memory or I would get the same stutters.

I'm running a PIII 3 gig with 2 gig of ram and an old ATI Radeon X1050 and I have no problems having both a complex model and PSP 7 open with a 1024 texture.

I'd check your system and or drivers.

Hmmm ok 3 out of three say it's driver related. With those odds, I'll look into it.

Thanks all

All is fixed for me. After a LOT of headaches messing with drivers, I learned that ATI had released updated drivers for my HD3850 VC. I installed version 9.3, and viola!! FSrepaint works in hardware mode now. I'm a happy camper:woot:

I hope you get things sorted out Trans
