i saw on youtube that there is a realistic pilot training, certifications and lic's. will those of us who want to just fly and have fun be able to fly the firefighting airtankers? or will i have to go through all of that? thanks

You probably will have to do career mode to get actual fires to fight, though, unless they expose fire in the SDK so people a create firefighting missions/challenging/scenery.

I agree with Denny. From the videos I've seen it only seems the fire fighting will be in the career mode missions. The exciting part for me is seeing that missions will spawn in random areas and youll never fight the same one twice. Pretty cool.

They've confirmed that fires, passengers, and other "mission-oriented" items will only be in the mission structure.

So the downside is that you'll have to get your ratings when you first get FS2024 to unlock the firefighter pilot missions. I don't mind this, as (1) the missions sound fun, and (2) you can apparently go straight to the rating tests without doing any training missions if you already feel confident. You'd need Private, Commercial, High Performance, Turboprop, and Scoop ratings to do firefighting. But once you've done those, the sky's the limit.

There's also a relatively new plugin for FS2020 that takes active fire data from MODIS (or the relevant active fire feeds) and imports them into use for firefighting in the sim. It was launched at the end of August. The application is known as Aero Fire Global. Looks like from the user guide I was able to glance over, it's as though it's a very simplified version of Lorby's FireFighterX. No idea if this would be able to transfer to 2024, but it might. This would make it useful for obvious uses in multiplayer or freeflight and not need to use career mode. Added benefit is flying on active real world fires potentially. It might be a matter of time though before someone also maybe cracks into the sim and maybe they do give us access in the SDK for fire related scenery.

If you preorder 2024, you get the CL-415 now to use in 2020. But I think the only other firefighting aircraft on the premium side is the 747 Super Tanker. Seems like if there are any others it's on the standard edition. But could be wrong. I was also watching a video online saying that they might even remove the fires only being available in career mode. But I guess we'll see what happens after launch. Based on all the interviews and stuff I've seen there is a lot of stuff they still want to add to this version, but it wont come on the launch. There was also a little asterisk in a video where someone was talking about compatibility between FS2020 and 2024 and you can apparently drag and drop your community folder right into 2024 and it will work. However, they said that the additional features in 2024 will have to be manually added to the model to take advantage of those extra items in the sim. So I'm not sure what that means, like weathering, the now working windshield wiper functions or what all that actually means. But it sounds like yes you can move those aircraft over, BUT they aren't going to have all the same additions a native built 2024 model might have. From how it sounds at least.
