Hi

Would just like to ask, i've been researching Bruntingthorpe Airfield over the last 6 months and would like to ask those here if there would be interest in such an airfield?

Bruntingthorpe is in Leicestershire, UK it was opened in 1942, rebuit and used by SAC in the late 50's and is today a proving ground. It also has an aircraft museum many of which are live aircraft and are run up and down the runway on special days, it also has two live English Electric Lightnings which are housed in a QRA shed, the shed itself was removed and re-erected at Bruntingthorpe from RAF Wattisham. There is also an aircraft recycling facility.

My intention would be to build two versions one of how it was in 1960 under the control of the USAF, the other how it is today. It would be for FSX and P3D only.

Like I say would this be of interest?

Regards

Stevo , I am fairly positive there would be great interest here on SOH on an RAF addition to add to all the excellent work airfieldconstructiongroup and others have already done . I hope it will be compatible to ORBX's FTX England or FTX Global as most of your work already is . Older RAF fields are some of my favorite places to fly in and out of . I just can't imagine how busy it must have back in the early to mid 40's when all of these fields were active . It a shame more of the historic RAF bases couldn't have been restored but unfortunately gave way to increasing farmlands and industry .

Looking forward to a 60's and modern day version

I would certainly welcome a modern Bruntingthorpe, for modern day flights with cold war jets such as the Lightning and Vulcan. I use ACG's Duxford for the same purpose with WW2 era (i.e. non-jet) aircraft.

A definite yes from me, ive done a few Cold War Jets open days over the years and it would be great to visit in the virtual world,

cheers ian

ah, so interest is out there, that is good.:adoration:

Yes it will be compatible with FTX England, thats the only addon I use now.

Cant say how long it will take to build but just keep an eye out on our forum.

If anyone has any photo references of Bruntingthorpe please let me know.

;-)

Here's a little preview of one of the models im working on, I'm sure those familiar with Bruntingthorpe will recognise this building. (Trees and ground texture by fellow ACGer Pete Beeby)

It's good enough to be one Jeff;) Eagerly awaiting whichever era you decide on Stevo.. both would be great:encouragement:

Hi DaveB

I think you may have misread my original post..:encouragement:

My intention would be to build two versions, one of how it was in 1960 under the control of the USAF, the other how it is today

Both versions will be done :adoration:

The modern one sounds great for my modern FSX Steam install, Duxford is a joy to visit for airshow days :encouragement:

cheers,
Lewis
