Pstrany and I thought you might like to see a preview of what the 'secret' project is we have under development currently. Lots of detail parts, cockpit, shadow, pilot, etc. still to be done yet but it's coming along nicely.

More details to come soon.

Hey Kurt and Pstrany,

I love the detail pics, but I'm a little confused about this....:dizzy:

A) It was evident when you released your Bf-109s for the 82nd Fighter Group that you did some model enhancements already, much like you did for the Corrado Mc-202 conversion. So, what detail changes are in this version (since it looks like you are using the same PR model as a base) that are not in the those versions?

B) Are these essentially a complete revamp, much like the Team Daedalus Fw-190 overhaul project?

Thanks Shadow.

To answer Rami, that is how this began. Paul has permission from Paul Rebuffat to use his 109 source files.

A simple update to the rudder was the original idea. However that went by the wayside quickly. The PR model, while it was the original basis, has been deconstructed and remade into a much, much more accurate and detailed model.

The size of the pics we can post is too small to really show how detailed this model is and how different the two are. This pic gives a little idea of the difference in shape.

Very pretty aeroplane!
Thanks for posting the wireframe detail.

A couple of questions:
1. The Me 109G-6 covered a very large timeframe. What time period / series would this aeroplane be?
Better question would be which model engine is installed because there were quite a few.
2.. Did you work off of dimensional drawings? I have been looking for an accurate set of drawings for the G-6 / G-10 / K models.

Thanks.
- Ivan.

Hi;

just to chime in, using Paul Rebuffat's fine model as a source, we've updated and modified some basic shapes (rudder, wingtips, canopy among others) and added some detail (for instance, note in screen shots below, cowl flaps and landing flaps as a compound animation, working flap gauge on outer flaps, landing gear leg detail, including scissors). There is also extensive remapping of textures, which allows for detailed paints (see wingover screenshot below). The downside of the remapping is that unfortunately repaints for the original model will not work for this one.

About 80% of the parts in the model have been tweaked or modified. So the short answer is yes, I think this qualifies as an overhaul. We will continue to tweak the model in future releases; some items were bypassed in order to be able to keep the project manageable and enable us to complete it in a reasonable amount of time.

The initial model is meant to represent an early 109G-6. There are a lot of variations in the G-6 model, as it was modified repeatedly in the course of production, and I believe somewhere around half of all 109s produced were some flavor of the G-6. When we get this basic early model done, we will explore those other flavors (erla hood, modified tail, etc.). For now, my focus is getting this finished so Captain Kurt can work his magic.

I have literally hundreds of books, manuals, drawings and blueprints of the 109. The one thing I have found is no two sets of drawings are the same. I think part of this is that there tended to be variations from factory to factory, and from supplier to supplier, so while the parts looked similar, there are subtle differences in shape and size. All of the details incorporated into this model are compromises, and are meant as general representations.

Equally important is having a good artist to produce skins that fill in the gaps and make a model pop. I can say that without Captain Kurt's involvement, this might not have happened. He certainly inspired me to do this project. :very_drunk:

Although a few G-6s were still around at the end of the war, this is a generic G-6 version which was heavily in use 1943 to 1944. The engine modeled is the DB605A with 1475hp.

I say generic because there were myriad small differences in all the Bf109s G-6's as they were produced in multiple factories which evidently interpreted the blueprints a little different or they modified parts to suit their own production work. For example I know of at least 3 different version of how the sheet metal MG131 gun troughs were manufactured. Just as Paul says above.

Paul used drawings, but just as much or more, he studied many different photos to capture the correct appearance. Drawings fail to show subtleties and usually don't show details of the variations that existed.

I can recommend the Kagero #22 Bf109 G/K book for you though. It has very nice plan views and should be easy to find and buy.

Thanks Paul. (I think he is tactfully saying I bugged him to death until he took this on to get me to stop :redfire:)

Paul and Kurt,

Many thanks for responding to my questions! I appreciate all the work you have done on this, and look forward to the results! :ernaehrung004:

Wow, that’s wonderful to see an updated `109!
About the drawings and models, I realized that if you have 3 or more drawings of one aircraft you have the same amount of different drawings; no drawing really fits another drawing, so finally if you haven’t the original blueprints each model will have a slightly different appearance.
By the way if you are modelling with FSDS2.4 or FSDS3.5 I can give you easy to assign bullet holes and in the near future a new pilot figure, (I need a Pilot Figure for my “old HE 162” project that goes slowly into the final stage)

Here is a look at the work on the main landing gears and wheels. Complete with door guide rod and brake lines. The compression shock, compression links, two piece gear door, and brake lines are fully animated and move with bounces over the ground.

I will post more information on details here as we continue development. :encouragement:

Another look at detail, the visual flap extension indicators painted on the Bf109 flaps. 10 degrees - 20 degrees - 30degrees - 40 degrees

Oh heck Rami, we are just getting started. Here's another update. The Bf109G-6 had several different radio configurations, short aerial mast, tall aerial mast, no aerial mast, combined with or without a DF loop. There will be some different model versions depicting specific aircraft. Note the tall mast antenna wire detail below. The tension spring and clip are not textured yet>

Gentlemen,
Absolutely magnificent. The detail you're putting in is amazing. Thanks in advance for all your hard work.
