Gustav 6
Hi;
just to chime in, using Paul Rebuffat's fine model as a source, we've updated and modified some basic shapes (rudder, wingtips, canopy among others) and added some detail (for instance, note in screen shots below, cowl flaps and landing flaps as a compound animation, working flap gauge on outer flaps, landing gear leg detail, including scissors). There is also extensive remapping of textures, which allows for detailed paints (see wingover screenshot below). The downside of the remapping is that unfortunately repaints for the original model will not work for this one.
About 80% of the parts in the model have been tweaked or modified. So the short answer is yes, I think this qualifies as an overhaul. We will continue to tweak the model in future releases; some items were bypassed in order to be able to keep the project manageable and enable us to complete it in a reasonable amount of time.
The initial model is meant to represent an early 109G-6. There are a lot of variations in the G-6 model, as it was modified repeatedly in the course of production, and I believe somewhere around half of all 109s produced were some flavor of the G-6. When we get this basic early model done, we will explore those other flavors (erla hood, modified tail, etc.). For now, my focus is getting this finished so Captain Kurt can work his magic.
I have literally hundreds of books, manuals, drawings and blueprints of the 109. The one thing I have found is no two sets of drawings are the same. I think part of this is that there tended to be variations from factory to factory, and from supplier to supplier, so while the parts looked similar, there are subtle differences in shape and size. All of the details incorporated into this model are compromises, and are meant as general representations.
Equally important is having a good artist to produce skins that fill in the gaps and make a model pop. I can say that without Captain Kurt's involvement, this might not have happened. He certainly inspired me to do this project.
