AddonsLinker Problem

I decided to use Addons Linker to categorize all the files from my Community folder. The problem I'm having is that since I didn't install MSFS into the "Windows" drive I can't move any community files to the "Linker". . .if I try I get this message "your organization does not allow you to place this file here".

Anyone have a similar problem?

Ed,
If you are still having problems with it, maybe send a message to the developer of Addon Linker? Pete

I didn't install MSFS to the Windows drive either, and I'm having no such problem. Not a great deal of help, I know, but the location of the Community folder shouldn't matter. Have you pointed Linker to the Community folder correctly during set up ? Also, the error message 'your organization' points to some administrator setting.

By default windows will not let you write anything to folders in the "Program Files" or "Program Files(x86)" folders unless you give your log on account full access to the folder.

In File Explorer go to "C:\Program Files\"

Right click on the "MSFS_Addons_Linker" folder

Choose Properties

Choose the Security tab

Under Group or user names click Edit

You will get an elevation prompt or be prompted to enter the Administrator username and password.

Click Add

Click the Advanced button (it is an easier search)

Don't bother entering any username and just click "Find Now"

Scroll down the list that is generated and find your log on account. Select it and click OK

Your name will now show up in the list of "Group or user name" but you do not yet have full control.

Scroll down and find your name and select it. In the boxes below click the Full Control box

Click OK and close everything out.

That should fix the permission issue.

Only do this on folders that require level of access. Never do this to the the "Program Files" folder or the root of the drive.

Wouldn't it be quicker to just delete Linker, and re-install it somewhere outside C:\Program Files ? I have mine on G: along with MSFS itself and everything else relating to the simulator.

To answer the two previous suggestions, first from Dave. . .I have full control on every level but that had no affect. As for you Paul. I have done that several times and no matter where I place it, it will not allow me to move any files from the Community folder to the Linker. For me it has become more trouble than it's worth and I will leave well enough alone. Thanks for everyone's input.

Well maybe but at one time only 64 bit programs could be installed in the "Programs Files" folder. Any 32 bit programs had to be installed in the Programs Files (x86) folder or just about any folder you create on the drive. This was because programs that were 64 bit needed 64bit drivers that would not be used if installed outside of the correct folder.

Is that still the case? I don't know. You would think that since 64 bit has been around a long time in computer years now that it would be the standard and 32 bit would be the exception. Could it work? It might but if it did could it actually use multi threading?

@falcon409 noted. If you run into that again we can dig deeper into it. The wording is almost as if the Pc is part of a domain which I am sure you are not. Out of curiosity what anti virus package are you running?

You can skip the "Linker" and do a new Folder "beside" MSFS folder , and move your "sleeping" Addon´s there , and when you want them again you can just move them back to your Community folder , works for me , i had the same problem as you before :)

This is what I do, again for the same reason. It is basically doing the same thing.

As like falcon409, I also just use the Windows Virus Protection, as it seems to catch even more than my overpriced Norton did after Win 10 was introduced. Win 11's is even more capable.
