Aerosoft F-16AM with ambient occlusion

Hello,

Tim Taylor, the original designer of the F-16 was kind enough to provide me with some ambient occlusion layers for the textures of the F-16AM (Norwegian) just to see if it was possible to make it a bit more realistic. I am very happy with the result. You can easily spot the shadows appearing in various places on the fuselage. Between the fwd fuselage/strake and intake and the enhanced appearance of the vertical tail.
Thanks a lot Tim !

Looks Great Dag... are you going to apply this to any of the paints you did for the AS F16 pack... I'm thinking of the Norwegian Tiger Tail...wasnt that one of yours?... funnily enough I took that for a quick spin this morning.

Thanks guys. I am considering redoing textures to a higher resolution but I might just redo normal maps. We'll see. I might just put them in my Dropbox for a while with links here. Mind you, I only have Ambient Occlusion files for the chute tail/Belgian not the standard tail.

I think this is something all models should have on them. I would love tos ee someone do these for the Virtavia Skyhawk.

Think I'll have to re-install my F-16 :) (haven't gotten a chance to install many aircraft as I've gone to a lean clean testing machine!)

Thanks Dag (and Tim of course)

I've only had a chance for a quick try out of one of them (while I had a coffee break) but your edits make a great model even better. Thanks.

Matt

Without knowing for sure I understand it's a tedious process involving using the source 3D files and a capable program for doing it. IMHO this is the work for the modeller, not the painter.
Maybe Tim or some other 3D guru can give a better answer.

How are these ambient occlusions made? I would love to try my hand at it with the Virtavia Skyhawk.

Hello Skyhawk

You would need the 3D model/Mesh and do a mental ray bake on it in 3D Studio Max. It's a pretty simple process really, just setting up the model is complicated when it's detail, and there is numerous textures involved can take some time. Majority of developers are doing it now, it's become a standard.

ya....did some research and saw a plugin for 3dsMax and then you put it into Photoshop. I wonder if a talented or slightly talented paint brush could do this also view layers
