After a year, an installation question . . .

Well, I pre-ordered 2024, and I have yet to install it for the first time. I have some free time coming up next weekend, and I've decided to finally jump in. I plan on installing it to its own dedicated drive.
So, veterans, any installation tips, advice, or pitfalls to avoid? I'd love the benefit of your experience.

I've been running it of a few months now and really like it, and I don't see myself ever going back to FS2020. I haven't loaded that sim for a long time now. FS2024 seems to run better and it has some very nice new features.
I just installed it on my C drive and haven't had any issues. I don't know if there is a good reason or not to install it on a different drive? There is a bit of a learning curve in setting up your controllers and creating different profiles, but there are many many YouTubes out there to help get you started and of course many of us here are running FS2024 and would be happy to try to answer any of your questions. I think everyone should just move on from FS2020 and not look back.

I just compared your computer specs to mine and they are virtually identical. It's a great setup and FS2024 runs very smoothly on my computer, so your fltsim should run very well too.

Whatever you do, do not install any subset files of a main downloaded portion. In particular, say you're downloading Japan versus streaming it and it has 20 files in it. There is an option to install those files already downloaded but await the complete download or risk CTD. That has been my only bad experience thus far. Very nicely done terrain indeed.

After you install the base simulation, go to Marketplace, My Library, and click the lower gear next to the Search box. This will move any downloads, and your Community folders, to a folder of your choice instead of the horrifically named default folder that MSFS uses. It will move any already-downloaded files, as well. Restart the sim after making the change, before doing more settings/installation stuff.

I am still in FS2020, having returned to it after a year absence just five months ago. With VR now, I love the thing. BUT am curious regarding 2024. Do I take a plunge? Do I buy on Steam as I did FS2020 and be forced into clogging up my C drive with the installation, or do I try another source? And above all, is the hassle even going to be worth it since I am so happy with FS2020..... Hmm, not going to rush this decision, and I fly exclusively in VR with a Reverb G2...
