ai sound mod

hey B!!
I'll send'em to ya today.
I just got back into the sim a couple weeks back and have been working on the 229 the last 3 days.

Jon I have your earlier muzzle effects which are a great improvement over stock effects. I think you were the first one who figured out how to apply more than one muzzle effect at a time. Basically I use your effects for all cannons which distinguishes gun fire from cannon fire. I looked at your ai sound video clip and I can't tell what is different from stock ai sound other than you might have used the specific airplane sounds to generate an ai specific sound file???

Since you obviously generate lots of effect mods I have a question. When you hit shift + F9 for fly-by view the aircraft ai sound volume will rise and fall based on the proximity of the aircraft to you. When the aircraft is approaching the volume gradually rises and when it passes then it gradually decreases. Contrary to that when you have WEP selected during fly-by view the wep sound volume remains constant regardless of the proximity of the aircraft. This is a realism killer and I wonder if you might know of a way to fix this?

Nice effects! I especially like the muzzle flash - very good, if perhaps a big on the big side, though.

The AI sounds are very convincing, too!

:salute:Hey dancat they sound :applause:awesome. Would ya please send em to me also.

Thanks, Len

thanks guys!
the sound mod makes the ai wav sound change pitch like the player ac does.
default is no 3d sound in the sound xml.
as for the wep sound, that can also be changed from no 3d to yes for a much better sound.
also, wep files should be saved as mono.
wep sound doesn't "refresh" if you go from vc to outside view and stereo sounds will over play all other sounds.
I just use one mono wep wav for inside and outside.

yeah, the 30mm flash is a bit on the big side but I kinda like it..
it looks good on aa guns at night too!

I also use a small flash added to the stock muzzle flash effect for small cal. guns.
it's added to the shell effect so some planes that weren't modeled right make it hard to add the effect.
shell effect won't work on say gun_grp0b1 because the b1 part is intended for vc use on manned guns. there for no shell effects should be used.
it can be changed in the m3d file with a hex editor but is a pain in the a$$ to fix all the planes...

gotta go,
there is a beer somewhere calling my name!!

Jon I notice when I convert the wep.wav files to mono, you can barely hear the external wep sounds eventhough I increased the volume. Is there something that must be entered on the sound.xml to make the sound audible while adding relative volume for proximity?

If you convert your weapons noises to mono, you won't get the left-and-right effects that I've taken such a lot of time doing...

most exterior sounds don't do well as stereo.
when distant, they sound like they're in your face still.
only vc sounds work well in stereo.
